Republican governors in several US states have placed National Guard troops on standby in preparation for nationwide protests against Donald Trump and his policies.
Organizers of the No Kings protests say gatherings will be held in more than 2,500 locations across the United States. Trump's allies accused the protesters of being allied with the far-left Antifa movement.
The governors of Texas and Virginia have activated their states' National Guard troops, but it is unclear how visible the military presence will be.
Organizers say the most recent No Kings protest, held in June, saw more than five million people take to the streets to denounce Trump's political agenda.
Protests are expected to begin in New York at 11:00 am EST (16:00 GMT) and continue across the country throughout the day.
Protest organizers say the protest will challenge Trump's “authoritarianism.”
“The President believes that his power is absolute,” they write on their website.
“But in America we have no kings, and we will not back down from chaos, corruption and cruelty.”
Across Europe, protesters took to the streets of Berlin, Madrid and Rome to show solidarity with their American counterparts.
In an interview with Fox News that was supposed to air on Sunday but was teased on Saturday, Trump appeared to address the upcoming rallies.
“King! This is not an act,” Trump said in a preview of the interview. “You know, they call me the king. “I'm not a king.”
Some Republicans have dubbed the protests “hate-America rallies.”
“We're going to have to pull out the National Guard,” Kansas Senator Roger Marshall said before the rallies, CNN reported.
“I hope it will be peaceful. I doubt it.”
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott activated the state's National Guard on Thursday ahead of a protest planned in Austin, the state capital.
He said troops would be needed because of a “planned antifa-related demonstration.”
Democrats condemned the move, including the state's top Democrat, Gene Woo, who said: “Sending armed soldiers to suppress peaceful protests is what kings and dictators do, and Greg Abbott just proved he's one of them.”
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin also ordered the activation of the state's National Guard.
Celebrities expected to attend No Kings rallies include Jane Fonda, Kerry Washington, John Legend, Alan Cumming and John Leguizamo.
