"We want to show our support for democracy and fighting for what is right. I am against abuse of power. I believe in three branches of government. There were too many to list."
"If you did a little research into 1930s German history, you'd see so many parallels it would scare the hell out of you. This is the whole macho spirit that the administration is selling, these mass seizures of families, breaking them up and taking them out of the country or some of these camps.
The rallies, building on massive protests in June, reflect Trump critics' frustration with policies ranging from immigration and education to national security and health care that have reshaped government and democratic norms at unprecedented speed since he took office in January.
"We want to show our support for democracy and fighting for what is right." said Alison Elliott, a protester who dressed up the Statue of Liberty.
"If you did a little research into 1930s German history, you would see so many parallels that would scare the crap out of you." said Bob, a protester wearing a cap with the inscription "Grumpy old Vietnamese veterinarian".
Since Trump took office 10 months ago, his administration has tightened immigration controls, taken steps to shrink the federal workforce and cut funding for elite universities over campus flashpoints such as pro-Palestinian protests over Israel's war in Gaza, ethnic and racial diversity and transgender athletes.
