Nintendo has confirmed the first set of new Joy-Con designs for Nintendo Switch 2and disappointment doesn't even cover it.
Part of the excitement about a new Nintendo console after the initial hype has died down is seeing what weird and wonderful options conjure up. This was at its peak during the 3DS days, but the Switch mostly kept these changes to Joy-Con colors throughout its lifespan, such as Splatoon, Pokemon or Animal Crossing themed colors, with rare designs like the adorable Zelda Skyward Sword colors. The lack of changes to the console was a little disappointing, but at least it means it can't get any more disappointing, right?
This direction clearly caused some upset. Twitter user @NintenTalk responds: “Cool that Nintendo is releasing new colors for the Joycon, but these are what most people will see… and they cost $100,” reacting to the fact that you can barely see the colors when the Switch 2 is in use. Meanwhile the user @LoganJPlant says: “Mediocre direction for alternate Joy-Con colors. You may only see the difference under the joystick or if you play with a split Joy-Con and the inner pad no longer fits your console.”
While Switch 1 had a few throwbacks, namely the Super Smash Bros Joy-Cons, they feel like a pointless addition. Let's hope Nintendo gets the message from this batch and allows the next wave of controllers to be a little flashier.
