NASHVILLE, Tennessee. — NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nicole Kidman And Keith Urban divorced and legally single, ending a 19-year marriage for one of the entertainment industry's most famous couples.
A judge in Nashville, Tennessee, ordered the dissolution of the marriage of the Oscar-winning actor and the Grammy-winning country singer at a hearing on Tuesday.
Judge Stephanie J. Williams said in a court filing that the couple's property division and child custody agreements were sufficient and granted them a divorce.
Williams wrote that “such irreconcilable differences exist between the parties as to render the continuation of the marriage impractical and impossible.”
Both Kidman and Urban waived their right to appear at the hearing.
Messages to their representatives seeking comment were not immediately returned.
Kidman filed for divorce in September. The superstar's split came as a surprise to most of the public, but it was clearly something that had been in the works for a long time. All legal issues related to the assets and their storage were settled and signed on the day of its submission.
Tennessee requires a 90-day waiting period for couples with minor children before a divorce becomes final.
Kidman and Urban, both 58, have two teenage daughters. The divorce filing said they had “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.”
The plan they signed states that Kidman will be the children's primary parent. They were expected to remain in Nashville as they had done their entire lives. The statement states that neither parent requires child or spousal support and calls for approximately equal division of their joint property.
Two of Australia's biggest stars of recent decades, Kidman and Urban, met in Los Angeles in 2005 and married in Sydney the following year. They've been red carpet regulars for two decades, with Urban joining his wife at the Oscars and Kidman attending music events like the Academy of Country Music Awards. The couple publicly but lovingly described some of their marital difficulties, but there were still few outward signs of an impending divorce.
Marriage was the first Urban and the second for Kidmanwho was married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. Kidman also has two older children with Cruise.
