TOUCHDOWN! Jaguars 0-7 Rams 7:01 1st quarter
No Nacua, no problem. Stafford uses five different receivers on the first down, finishing with rookie Konata Mumpfield (who?) for a five-yard gain. It's just his second catch of his young career. Great job finishing this under pressure after I did it on the 4th and 3rd.
Jaguars 0-0 Rams 7:01, 1st quarter
The Rams are in the game, and in Nacua's absence, Davante Adams becomes a target but is defeated in the first game. Tight end Tyler Higbee then finds the first down with an easy short pass to the right from Stafford. A good combination of running and passing in the rain results in another pair of first downs involving the tight ends. Higbee, in particular, keeps this machine moving with a pair of nifty grabs with what looks more like a bar of soap than a ball. And so McVeigh doesn't trust his alarm. 4th and 3 at the 16 yard line and the Rams go for it. And they get it with running back Kyren Williams making the tackle.
Jaguars 0-0 Rams 14:03, 1st quarter
Like this! Lawrence and the Jaguars hitters take the field for the first attack. First play and Wehrs sacks the QB. Told you the pass rush was good. Not the start Jacksonville was looking for. Three and out. Punt.
Preamble
Hello and hello football fans! Week 7 of the NFL has arrived and it brings with it the rarest of treats: a game between two teams (two!) with winning records in London! The Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2) will host the Los Angeles Rams (4-2) in their home away from home at Wembley. It's a big cause for celebration as at 2.30pm in the UK and the earliest morning for fans in Los Angeles at 6.30am, we have the chance to end this year's London series on a cracker.
England's capital has only once been graced with a meeting between two “good” teams, when the Giants and Packers, both 3-1, came to the party in 2022. Yes, it only took 15 years of bad luck to finally be blessed with Daniel Jones beating Aaron Rodgers 27-22 with a brutal second-half comeback from a 17-3 deficit.
The G-men will make the playoffs, so are the Rams or Jaguars headed in that direction? Both are well positioned with Los Angeles in a three-way tie at the top of the NFC West and Jacksonville one game behind the Indianapolis Jones Colts in the AFC South.
It's still too early to make predictions for the postseason, though, so let's take a look at today's matchup. The big team news is that the Rams are missing the great Puka Nacua at wide receiver, and the Jaguars are without star linebacker Devin Lloyd. On the field, both teams have had success so far due to inconsistency. For Los Angeles, the kicking game has been an issue, while the offense, led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, has been one of the most productive in terms of yards and scoring in the league, but they rank 24th in red zone efficiency, scoring a touchdown only 50% of the time they get inside the 20-yard line. Follow head coach Sean McVay as he digs into his bag of tricks to give the Jaguars plenty of different looks as the Rams look to break the 30-point mark for the first time this season (second time if you count the Titans).
Defensively, Los Angeles is much more reliable and has not allowed teams to score two touchdowns this season. The people the Jaguars need to be most wary of is the best pass-rushing duo in football, Jared Wehrs and Braden Fisk. The game could be won or lost depending on how well Jacksonville protects its quarterback, Trevor Lawrence. Or they could try to restart the game to take the pressure off him after struggling against the Seahawks. Jags fans will be hoping Lawrence, who beat the Chiefs, shows up today.
