Dallas Cowboys Head coach Brian Schottenheimer had an unexpected guest in his house on Thursday.

Schottenheimer, 52, discovered an owl flying around his living room.

“I was in a game planning meeting last night doing some stuff. red zone stuff and I leave the meeting around 10 o'clock. When I go back to my phone, I literally had 72 text messages on my phone. Seventy two. I'm a popular guy, so it's not abnormal,” Schottenheimer told reporters on Friday.

“But it literally started with a text from my son to his mother saying, 'Umm, there's a big bird here the size of a hawk,' and I started looking down and I saw an owl.”

The Cowboys head coach called his niece and future nephew for help with the owl, but they got nowhere.

“We’re not very outdoorsy people, so he wasn’t quite sure what to do. So he called my future nephew, who would marry my niece, and the two of them, Frick and Frack, tried to figure it all out. you’re going to get it tonight,” Schottenheimer said.

Animal control was eventually called and the owl was removed.

“The owl was returned to safety… They called animal control. The gentleman came with a net that looked like a pool net. I may have to treat this as another job. Just become some sort of animal control specialist. I now have so much experience working with wildlife in and around Dallas,” Schottenheimer said.

The owl wasn't Schottenheimer's first encounter with wildlife this season. Before the team's first victory of the season over New York Giants in the second week he encountered a problem with snakes.

Earlier that week, two of his dogs were bitten by snakes, but it turned out to be a victory for the Cowboys. Schottenheimer called the owl a “good omen” and said he would be willing to keep the elephant in his garage if it meant a win for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys play in a 3-4-1 formation and take on Arizona Cardinals (2-5) Monday 8:15 PM ET.
