NFL news: Chiefs’ Travis Kelce to take time away before retirement decision

Travis Kelce needs to rethink his retirement decision, but first Kansas City Chiefs the star plans to get back on his feet and become human.

Kielce, 36 years old, said he plans to take a couple of weeks, maybe a month, away before making a decision about his playing future.

“Every season ends for me, I put my feet up and I just remain human because I put my body to the test for the love of it. I really enjoy playing football and the physical aspect of it, I think there's something about feeling the fatigue of football season to just get ready for a game knowing your body is beat as hell, man. I think there's something about it that makes you feel like a mangy animal that just is. Damn, I'm just here looking for a way to survive and I just fucking love this shit,” Kelsey said during a recent episode of the series. “New Heights”

“But yeah, I think I'll just be a normal person for a couple of weeks, maybe a month or so, and try to figure out what I should do next in terms of my future in football.”

Although the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014, Kelce was productive. He was named to his 11th Pro Bowl after recording 76 catches for 851 yards and five touchdowns.

The four-time All-Pro said he's talked to people in the Chiefs building and that they know where he is now.

“I've talked to a few people at the stadium who have already done final meetings and everything, and they know where I am, at least right now. I think I still have a lot of love for the game and I don’t think I’ll ever lose it,” Kelsey said.

“I don't know, it's a challenge, but at the same time I think if my body can recover and rest and I feel confident that I can go out and run for another 18, 20, 21 weeks, I think I'd do it in a heartbeat. “I think now it’s just a matter of finding the answer and seeing how the body feels after this game and when everything calms down.”

The star tight end called the Chiefs' season “tough,” saying it would be a shame to miss the playoffs.

“It's kind of an awkward feeling, but you keep moving,” Kelsey said. “I'm still a fan of the game and I still love it. So I’ll be keeping an eye on her throughout the playoffs.”

Kelsey said he plans to spend time with friends and family over the next month. If he decides to retire, he will go down in history as one of the greatest difficult moments in NFL history and as a lock for the creation of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In 192 career games, Kelce caught 1,080 passes for 13,002 yards and 82 touchdowns. No player in NFL History caught more passes in the playoffs than Kelce, who caught 178 passes for 2,078 yards and 20 touchdowns in the postseason.
