NFL news: Bengals cornerback jailed for 5 days after guilty plea

Cincinnati Bengals Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt must spend five days in jail after pleading guilty in a Hamilton County courtroom Tuesday.

Taylor-Britt, 26, pleaded guilty to careless conduct and driving without a licence, the bailiff confirmed. FOX19 NOW.

Taylor-Britt was ticketed for street racing on Sept. 19, Cincinnati police records show. He was allowed to finish out the season with the Bengals and had a court hearing on Tuesday.

Hamilton County Judge Bernie Bouchard refused to grant Taylor-Britt community service after the hearing. via ESPN.

Reckless driving was punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $250 fine, or a combination of both. Bouchard insisted that Taylor-Britt serve his prison sentence immediately.

“This is a gift,” he told Taylor-Britt in court, according to ESPN. “Five days instead of 30. He has to do it now. This will end soon.”

After pleading guilty Taylor-Britt was taken into custody and booked at 11:23 a.m.

Taylor-Britt is expected to be released on January 11.

Three months before the street racing charge, Taylor-Britt was ticketed for careless driving on Race Street on June 18, according to police records.

Taylor-Britt will hit free agency this offseason and his rookie contract with the Bengals expires in the new league season.

He also arrived in court on crutches as he recovers from a Lisfranc injury in his left leg that required surgery.

“I just want to apologize, first and foremost, for my actions that I put everyone else through,” he said in court. “Not intentionally [any] way.”

Taylor-Britt tallied 203 combined tackles, two forced fumbles, seven interceptions and 38 passes defensed in four years in Cincinnati.

Although Taylor-Britt said he would like to return to the Bengals, he had health issues earlier this season. Since then, they have used Dax Hill and DJ Turner II as their top two defenders.
