New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani fundraises for his transition

Elected Mayor of New York Zogran Mamdani preparing to take office, appeals to his supporters asking for donations.

“I hope very soon I won’t have to ask you for money. But until then, I ask you to go to transition2025.com, give whatever you can…,” Mamdani said in his message. video published on Tuesday.

The new mayor explained that transition operations do not qualify for government matching funds, unlike campaign contributions.

“Now, unlike the campaign, the crossings do not receive public funds from the city. So the ratio is eight to one: no more. It's up to us to collect the money. Typically campaigns use this as an opportunity to rely on wealthy donors, but that's not us,” he said.

Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, said: “We need to raise a total of $4 million so that January 1 can be the day we start taking action rather than start preparing.”

Figures shown in the video show that as of November 14, more than $1 million had been raised, with an average donation of $77.65 from 12,707 donors.

In the video he explained why he fundraising.

“We need to review the 50,000 resumes we receive,” he said. “We must continue to pay our incredible team.”

“And we must plan not only for our inauguration, but also for the implementation of our policies,” he said.
