A grand jury indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on fraud charges Thursday, about two weeks after the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey.
A source close to the case confirmed the indictment Associated Press Thursday.
“James was indicted in the Eastern District of Virginia on one count following a mortgage fraud investigation,” said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly,” the AP reported.
As of this writing, the case has been kept under wraps, so the exact evidence presented to the grand jury remains unknown.
Neither Letitia James nor her office would comment on the indictment, although she has previously denied any wrongdoing, claiming that an error was made while “filling out a form related to the purchase of a home, but she quickly corrected it and did not defraud the lender,” according to the AP.
In late September, former FBI Director James Comey was accused one count of perjury and one count of obstruction of justice. The charges came after the Trump administration replaced U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Eric Siebert with White House aide Lindsey Halligan, who had sought an immediate grand jury indictment before the statute of limitations expired.
