Rumors about a possible DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are becoming more and more like a loud grumbling after several weeks, especially now that one of the people behind the rumors has redoubled its efforts. claim that the decade-old role-playing game will receive a “swan song” expansion sort of.
Polish game insider Boris Nespeljak has been talking about the upcoming expansion of The Witcher 3 for several months now, citing several independent sources. AND eurogamer has now reached out to another rumor prognosticator, Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski, who told the publication they are “100% confident” CD Project Ed “will release significant new content this year.”
However, Chrzanowski can prove his claim with little more than anonymous sources. Analyst points to CDPR Comments since last year that there was a “chance” of new content for one of its games, as well as the company's incentive program, which pays bonuses to employees based on the studio's revenue.
“Currently 700 million zlotys [$193m] needed to reach the first threshold, and there are only five quarters left,” Chrzanowski tells Eurogamer. “This implies a need for much more than just another update or version for a niche platform.”
Chrzanowski says another expansion would be a “natural direction” for CD Projekt Red to reach that first threshold, although they haven't ruled out the possibility of creating a “Witcher-themed game” similar to a CRPG. Miracle Worker (from Remakes of The Witcher 1: The Fool's Theory), or. “Remember, The Fool Theory was built on veterans of The Witcher.
Chrzanowski notes that CDPR is “mindful of words,” so the hint of new content did not come out of the executive’s mouth by accident. According to the analyst, such a comment “gives confidence” in the inevitability of new content. Whether this comes from CD Projekt Red's own team or from Fool's Theory is another question.
The core Witcher 3 development team was, of course, disbanded years ago following the release of Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine, but it would still make sense for CDPR to create some sort of interlude linking The Witcher 3 to The Witcher 4which likely won't hit stores for at least a few years.
Co-founder CD Projekt is buying out GOG and promises that The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 will continue to be available in PC stores.
