New England Patriots’ Christian Barmore faces domestic assault charge | New England Patriots

New England Patriots defensive end Christian Barmore is charged with domestic assault stemming from an alleged incident that occurred Aug. 8 in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

According to court documents cited Wednesday by Boston television station WCVB, Barmore, 26, was in a relationship with the alleged victim.

The woman told police she tried to leave the house after an argument when Barmore “grabbed her before she could and threw her to the floor,” according to documents filed in Attleboro District Court.

The criminal complaint was filed Dec. 16, and Barmore is scheduled to be charged Feb. 3.

The Patriots released a statement but did not say whether Barmore will play in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Miami Dolphins.

“The New England Patriots are aware of reports of an upcoming indictment against Christian Barmore in February stemming from an alleged domestic incident that occurred in August,” the team said. “The Patriots were briefed during the incident and informed NFL timely. The matter remains part of an ongoing lawsuit. We will respect this process, continue to monitor the situation closely as we have done over the past few months, and fully cooperate with the league. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Barmore became the second Patriots player this week to face off-field proceedings. On Tuesday, it was revealed that wide receiver Stefon Diggs he was charged with strangulation in connection with an alleged incident that occurred on December 2.

Head coach Mike Vrabel said Wednesday that Barmore did not practice due to illness and added that he had heard “nothing that would keep any of the players from participating in the game.”

Asked if he was disappointed with the distractions of Barmore and Diggs, Vrabel said: “I would say not at all. I think these are the allegations. These are the things we have to deal with. Every day there are distractions, some less than others. I'm confident that we will focus on the Dolphins and those two men can handle the ongoing litigation.”

Barmore played in all 16 games this season, starting 15 times for the AFC East champion Patriots (13-3). He has one sack, 26 tackles and nine quarterback hits. He was selected by New England in the second round of the 2021 draft.
