C64 Mini Black Edition went on sale for the first time since its release last October. The Amazon exclusive retro console will be available for $88 (was $120). $32 off is pretty awesome, but if you're lucky, you can save even more. Amazon is offering an additional 25% off to select customers. If you qualify for additional savings, you'll see a coupon box below the price. If the box is checked, the C64 Mini Black Edition price drops to just $66 at checkout.
The original C64 Mini, released in 2018 for $70, included 64 classic games from the 1980s. The Black Edition is a limited edition showcasing the talented developers behind modern Commodore games running on real hardware. The pre-installed catalog includes 25 modern C64 games, including Sam's Journey, A Pig Quest and several other games that are now considered by many to be the best Commodore 64 games of all time.
The vast majority of new games – 19 to be exact – are sold on itch.io by well-known Commodore 64 publishers such as Psitronic And Protovision. Psytronik games typically cost five dollars or less, but games published by Protovision usually have a higher price tag. There are four pre-installed Protovision games that typically cost around $55 combined: Sam's Journey ($24) Pig Quest ($11.61) MV Ultra ($11) and Yeti Mountain ($9). These are some of the most ambitious games for the C64. For example, developer Knights of Bytes created over 2,000 screens for the 30 extremely long levels of Sam's Journey. This is one of the best retro platformers I've ever played (and also available at NES), so it's no surprise that the game's protagonist is featured on the front of the Black Edition box.

The Black Edition comes with the same accessories and inserts as original version: Upgraded C64 USB joystick with six buttons, USB power cable, HDMI cable and instruction manual. Like many other mini consoles, it doesn't come with an AC adapter, but basically any USB brick will do. Or you can simply connect it through one of the USB ports on your TV.
The C64 Mini is about half the size of the original Commodore 64 computer. The “keyboard” is decorative: none of the home mini computers have a functioning keyboard. But if you want to use the BASIC interpreter to write your own programs and/or load games that you add to the C64 Mini via a USB drive, you can connect almost any keyboard to the second USB port. You can also connect a second joystick or controller for multiplayer.
Retro Games Ltd. Joystick C64 It's currently only available through resellers, so purchasing an identical second joystick will cost you $50. Amazon has it refurbished C64 joysticks in “excellent” condition for $30.
The C64 Mini displays games in 720p resolution in pixel perfect aspect ratio or native 4:3 aspect ratio. You can add scan lines (CRT filter) if you want to reproduce the classic look. All pre-installed games have four save slots, and you can save your progress at any time.
Here's the full list of modern Commodore 64 games included with the C64 Mini – Black Edition out of the box. The prices next to each title are the prices you would pay on itch.io. Games without prices are available for download for free.
