Retro Games Limited has just released a new version of its miniature Commodore 64 home computer. C64 Mini – Black Edition is a limited edition showcasing the talented developers behind modern Commodore games. The Black Edition comes pre-installed with the original lineup of 64 C64 Mini games. And 25 modern games, including C64 greats like Sam's Journey and A Pig Quest.
The C64 Mini – Black Edition retails for $120 and is an Amazon exclusive in the US. Amazon is “temporarily out of stock” on launch day (October 24), but you can still place an order. Original C64 Mini released in 2018, MSRP $70. grab one today from Amazon for just $51. The significant price increase is likely due in part to economic changes and tariffs, but the inclusion of modern games likely played a much larger role.
The vast majority of new games – 19 to be exact – are sold on itch.io by major Commodore 64 publishers, including Psitronic And Protovision. Psytronik games typically cost five dollars or less, but games published by Protovision usually have a higher price tag. There are four pre-installed Protovision games that typically cost around $55 combined: Sam's Journey ($24) Pig Quest ($11.61) MV Ultra ($11) and Yeti Mountain ($9). These are some of the most ambitious games for the C64. For example, developer Knights of Bytes created over 2,000 screens for the 30 extremely long levels of Sam's Journey. This is one of the best retro platformers I've ever played (and also available at NES). In short: a $50 price increase seems more than reasonable.

The Black Edition includes the same items as the original: C64 mini computer, classic USB joystick, USB power cable, HDMI cable and instruction manual. Like many other mini consoles, it doesn't come with an AC adapter, but basically any USB brick will do. Or you can simply connect it through one of the USB ports on your TV.
The C64 Mini is about half the size of the original Commodore 64 computer. The “keyboard” is decorative: none of the home mini computers have a functioning keyboard. But if you want to use the BASIC interpreter to write your own programs and/or load games that you add to the C64 Mini via a USB drive, you can connect almost any keyboard to the second USB port. You can also connect a second joystick for multiplayer. Reliable and budget option – Hyperkin Soldier for about $18.
The C64 Mini displays games in 720p resolution in pixel perfect aspect ratio or native 4:3 aspect ratio. You can add scan lines (CRT filter) if you want to reproduce the classic look. All pre-installed games have four save slots, and you can save your progress at any time.

As mentioned, any USB keyboard should work with the C64 Mini, but it's worth noting the amazing 8BitDo Retro: C64 Edition mechanical keyboard. The Commodore-style keyboard features removable super buttons and a detachable arcade joystick. This is a 2.4 GHz wireless keyboard with Bluetooth support for PC, Mac, SteamOS, Android and iOS. However, you can use it as a wired keyboard by connecting the included USB cable.
Keyboard C64 Edition 8BitDo reduced to $93.49 (was $110). If this deal disappears, there is another ad for $95.
8BitDo also creates keyboards themed for other classic gaming platforms, including the NES, Famicom, and the original Xbox. Transparent green Xbox style model officially licensed by Microsoft and sold on Amazon for $92.40 (was $120). The NES-style version is only $80 (was $100).. In addition to the C64 Mini, Retro Games Limited released many mini retro computers. Another car you can buy in the United States for MSRP is the 400 Mini. It plays all 8-bit Atari games, including games for the 400, 130XE, 800XL and other home computers. It also supports Atari 5200 console games.
