Netflix today confirmed that the fifth and final season of The Witcher will air on the streaming service this year. It follows the fourth season, which launched at the end of October last year.
Netflix included The Witcher in its 2026 release list in the Coming Soon section of the listing on their website. The synopsis for the series reads:
“The time of the end is near: dark forces are uniting across the continent with evil plans against Ciri. Even if Geralt and Yennefer are able to save their daughter and fulfill their final wish to reunite as a family, they will have to face obstacles and enemies they have never faced before.”
Season 5 was expected to soon follow Season 4, with both seasons filmed back-to-back. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich said the Witcher team viewed the two series as “one big story.” Jaskier actor Joey Baty added in an interview with ScreenRant.“It's like Season 4, Parts 1 and 2. I think that's how I read it.”
Since then, viewing figures for The Witcher on Netflix have plummeted. The Witcher has a surprisingly strong start in 2019. Even with Henry Cavill, the series was in decline season after season, and the fourth season, in which Liam Hemsworth replaced Cavill, fell even further. In the first four days of availability, the fourth season received 7.4 million views, the third – 15.2 million, and the second – 18.5 million. In the first season, 76 million households tuned in for at least two minutes, according to Netflix.
I watched a few episodes of season 4 but gave it up after that. Has anyone gone all the way?
