NKSOFT announced this week it was licensed by Sony Interactive Entertainment Horizon IP for a new MMORPG, Steel horizon line.
The NCSOFT development team talks to a Korean site Ruleweb (translated by user to ResetEra) revealed that they made “extensive” use of AI.
“Internally, we test and get help from base NPCs in the process of collaborating or fighting together in battle,” the developer responded when asked about the use of AI.
“In our case, since it is an ARPG, we get help in various aspects such as determining the optimal number of players for the gameplay rather than playing with a large number of users. Internally, we also use AI assistance for production, from coding to art.
“It is being largely implemented into actual development, and the technologies will likely be revealed one by one later. The Horizon development team is also the team that most wants to use AI. We're using it extensively, and you'll see AI usage increase significantly in games released after Aion 2.”
Steel horizon line is in development for PC, iOS and Android.
