NBA star Kevin Durant explains why he does not want to get married

Kevin Durant popped the question to the former WNBA player more than 10 years ago, but now he doesn't see marriage in his future.

NBA superstar now playing for Houston Rocketswas engaged to Monica Wright in 2013, but they called off the wedding shortly after.

In a recent appearance on The Bobby Althoff Show “Not this again” The 2013-14 NBA MVP said on a podcast that he doesn't want to get married.

When asked if he could be with one person for the rest of his life, he replied, “I don't know.”

“Who did you see do this?” Durant asked. “I think divorce is more realistic. The divorce rate is higher. The word “marriage” is… like what a relationship is. Like, do I want to be with someone every day and hang out with the same person every day and not be able to do my own thing?”

Durant also said he didn't want to plan for a “40-year period” and said he “never really dreamed of getting married.”

“When I go to a wedding, I think, ‘Oh, this is cool. Oh, that's cool.” It's not like it had to happen in my head. But it’s still a cool event, don’t get me wrong.”

Durant hasn't completely ruled out marriage, but said, “I'm not looking forward to it.”

Durant said he really wants to find someone he “can hang out with every day, someone I can talk to and that's cool; you know, the basics, someone I can actually be friends with.” But he wants to avoid the label.

“This expectation, this title, this cloud that comes with it instead of us just being natural friends. It's better for me not to have any expectations because sometimes I may not want to talk to you or see you,” he said.

Durant is in his 18th season.not counting the 2019-20 season, which he missed due to a torn Achilles.
