Army, however, responded in exactly the same way, going on a 13-play, 75-yard drive that ended with Cale Hellums punting for one.
After this, the Navy's offensive stalled for a long time. His next three drives resulted in a punt, a fumble and an interception. Meanwhile, the Black Knights were able to kick three more field goals to go up 16-7. Late in the third, the Midshipmen finally added more points with a field goal, cutting their deficit to three.
Early on the fourth, the navy organized an army interception. Navy had the ball at the goal line but was unable to escape the defender, losing seven yards. However, Horvath hit Eli Heidenreich in the end zone, and the ensuing punt gave the Midshipmen their first lead since the first kick of the game.
Navy quickly forced a three-and-out and got the ball back with less than five minutes left. Navy lost an attempt on a first down that could have stopped the game, but the play was reviewed and the call was overturned. So Navy had a fourth-and-1 and kept the offense on the field by converting the first down to ice the game.

With the win, the Navy earned the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy after defeating the Air Force earlier in the year.
The game was regular old-school ground-and-pound football, with only 24 passing attempts compared to 86 runs.
President Donald Trump attended the game for the seventh time and second in as many years since his re-election. Trump participated in a coin toss while protesters waved obscene anti-Trump signs on the street leading to the stadium.
Protests were expected over the game in the blue city as Trump proposed sending the National Guard to Baltimore to help combat rampant crime in the city. Baltimore consistently ranks among U.S. cities with high crime rates, often ranking in the top five for violent crime, especially murder and robbery.

The anti-Trump protests also began the same day officials said two U.S. Army soldiers and an American translator were killed in an ambush in Syria.
