President Donald Trump addressed the nation after three people, including two National Guardsmen, were shot and killed in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.
The president said the attack, allegedly carried out by an Afghan national brought to the country under Joe Biden in 2021, was a “crime against our nation.”
“This heinous attack was an act of evil, an act of hatred and an act of terror,” the president said. “This was a crime against our entire nation. This was a crime against humanity. The American people are with these two West Virginia National Guard members and their families tonight.”
The President also promised that the “animal” who committed the crime will be brought to justice. He also said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is confident the perpetrator is an Afghan national brought in by President Joe Biden following his failed 2021 troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“It was brought in by the Biden administration in September 2021,” Trump said. “Nobody knew who was coming. Nobody knew anything about it. His status was extended by legislation that President Biden signed. A failed president – the worst in the history of our country.”
The President also called for screening of persons brought from Afghanistan during this period.
