Canadian national treasure Nardwuar Human Towel was awarded the Order of Canada.
The famed interviewer and punk rock frontman announced the news on Instagram, sharing a thank you message as well as an image of his sleek new lapel pins.
“I am honored to announce that I have been appointed a Member of the Order of Canada,” he said. “So humbled that people thought I was worthy of the honor and nominated me. I'm delighted! Like, I can’t even explain myself, so I can’t imagine how people will explain me to the committee! Thank you! Also a huge thank you to everyone for their incredible support over the years.”
He dedicated the honor to his late mother, who he said “taught me so much about history, local independent media and the value of research. I know that she, like me, will be overwhelmed with joy.”
Backgammon used to be inducted into the British Columbia Entertainment Hall of Fame and received a star on the Granville Street Walk of Fame in Vancouver..
Nard is among 80 new appointees to the Order of Canada for December 2025. Other musical figures include country artists. Terry Clark and electroacoustic pioneer Barry Truax. Children's songwriter Raffi was awarded the highest honor of the Commander of the Order of Canada.
