The National Arts Center (NAC) has promoted Annabelle Cloutier to the post of president and CEO, saying she is the first French-speaking woman to hold those positions.
Cloutier has been with NAC since 2018, serving as executive director of strategy and communications and corporate secretary of the board of directors.
She worked on downtown Ottawa's 50th anniversary celebrations and the opening of its Indigenous theatre. according to NAC message.
Previously, she worked in the Office of the Governor General and in French-language cultural institutions such as French-Canadian Cultural Federation.
Previous President and CEO Christopher Deacon officially resigned last week.
“Annabelle is the kind of arts leader Canada needs in these times, bringing vision, energy and imagination to one of Canada's most respected cultural institutions,” said Guy Pratt, Chairman of the NAC Board of Trustees and Chair of the Selection Committee.
“My immediate priority will be engaging with artists and arts leaders from across the country, actively engaging with our national audiences, and collaborating with and supporting our amazing NAC team,” Cloutier said in a press release.
“Together we will ensure that the performing arts remains the vibrant and relevant cornerstone of our Canadian identity that it should be.”
