January 9, 2025, Toronto, ON: The Gold & Platinum Music Canada certification program in 2025 celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025. For half a century, the program noted the milestone of sales and streaming achievements of artists in Canada, which makes distinctive plaques of gold and platinum the most recognizable symbol of commercial success in the musical industry.
Since 1975, the Gold & Platinum program has recognized popular music in Canada, providing a unique historical schedule of music that Canadians have loved over the past five decades.
“When we look back at 50 years of the history of the program, you can see the influence and coverage of the songs that the generations defined, amaze the singles that captured the culture of the day and all the ways that various technologies influenced how we consume the music of our life,” says Patrick Rogers, General Director of Music Canada. “There is no greater standard of success than Gold & Platinum certification, because it reflects that Canadians listen and love.”
In the first year, the program released 27 albums and seven physical single certificates. The first certificates of the program in history, which were released on August 1, 1975, were:

The program always reflected how people listen to their favorite songs and albums, starting with vinyl albums and 45 vinyl single, and then cassette tapes, compact, digital loads, ringtones, streaming audio and recently ,, Stream videoThe field as the industry continues to develop, the Gold & Platinum program will grow with it and continue to celebrate the music that Canadians prefer to listen, wherever they listen to it.
Today, the genres of music and artists who are commercial success are wider and more diverse than when the libs before. In 2024, the program certified 1025 singles and 211 albums, including:

Music Canada will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Gold & Platinum program throughout the year with special events, playlists and presentations. And in order to officially celebrate the anniversary, every new platinum sign of the Gold & Platinum program, presented in 2025 to artists, and their teams will include a memorable 50th anniversary.
