In February, Mozilla Firefox announced that the company was adding third-party artificial intelligence to its browser. This week the company continues showed that he does this through “AI windows” for ChatGPT and other services.
Back in its original announcement, Mozilla stated that it was in fact deployment of third-party artificial intelligence services a small portion of its user base. Mozilla said this week it is working on public and private “AI windows” to ensure the same experience. This is in addition to the ability to communicate with third-party AI inside the sidebar, including Anthropic Claude, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Le Chat Mistral and Microsoft Copilot.
It's an odd strategy considering most of Mozilla's competitors have rushed to embed AI directly into their browsers, such as Edge and Copilot, Google Chrome and Gemini, or Brave and its Leo AI services. Allowing users to choose their AI seems smart, but it's also a little strange how slowly Mozilla is rolling out this capability, given the breakneck speed at which AI is being rolled out elsewhere. Mozilla has not provided a timetable for when these AI windows will be completed.
“[AI windows are] “A new, intelligent, user-controlled space we're creating in Firefox that lets you talk to artificial intelligence and get help as you browse the web, all on your terms,” Mozilla said. – “By fully agreeing, you have full control, and if you try it and find it's not for you, you can turn it off.”
You can register receive updates, Mozilla said.
