There are also six probable and 112 possible cases. It is still unclear whether they are part of the outbreak, since laboratory results are under consideration. Six of these people were developed by Hus.
The dates of the onset of the disease for confirmed cases are drawn up between August 11 to September 19, 2025. The average age of these patients is 4, with a range of less than 1 to 94 years. Among the confirmed cases with available information, 51 percent are women.
The Institute of Robert Coha (RKI) also received information about three cases of outbreak through the EU networks. They include an infected American woman who went to Mecklenburg Vorpomons, and for one child from Luxembourg and the Netherlands, which were not in Germany.
The current outbreak is the largest after the incident E. Coli O104: H4 2011, when the final number of cases was 4075, including 908 cases of HUS and 50 deaths in 16 countries.

The National Reference Center (NRZ) for pathogens Salmonella and other bacterial enteritis in RKI identified the flash strain as E. Coli O45: H2. This type of E. coli is rare in Germany. From January 2015 to June 2025, NRZ discovered only 13 strains of this Serovar. These isolates are not related to deformation of the flash.
The Merklenburg-In-Polman State Office for Health and Social Affairs (LAGUS) regularly reports the number of diseases. There are 126 patients and 19 cases of HUS, of which 65 and 15 are confirmed. A dozen adults and 53 children are confirmed.
In the first two weeks, the injured people were almost exclusively in Mecklenburg Vorpomon a few days before the onset of the disease, either on vacation, or as residents. Later, outbreaks are primarily people in Nordrhein-Westfalen. The area of ​​Dusseldorf, in the visible one, is most affected.
RKI studies patients and their parents on the phone, conducting a case-control study and analyzing purchases to try to find a source of infection. Until now, not a single food product has been identified.
