NFC East meets NFC West as New York Giants (2-6) spend San Francisco 49ers (5-3) in Week 9 of the NFL on Paramount+. Jackson Dart and the Giants had lost two straight games to start Week 9, following a wild 33-32 loss to the Denver Broncos and a 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The injury-riddled season continued with a 26-15 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8, although there is a chance starting cornerback Brock Purdy could return on Sunday. However, Mac Jones had already been named the starter. The Giants will be without running back Cam Skattebo, who will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
Kickoff from MetLife Stadium is set for 1:00 pm ET on CBS and Paramount+. San Francisco is a 2.5-point favorite in the latest 49ers vs. Giants odds, per SportsLine consensus, while the over/under for total points scored is 48.5. The 49ers are a -143 moneyline favorite (risk $143 to win $100) while the Giants are a +120 underdog. The 49ers' injuries were evident against Houston as Mac Jones struggled with a knee injury, but managed to overcome it C.J. Stroud for two touchdowns (and one interception). Purdy has thrown for 277 and 309 yards in two starts this season and will be excited to rejoin the team. George Kittle as the tight end tallied 43 yards and a touchdown in Week 8. The Giants have one of the weakest run defenses in the league (148.9 yards allowed), which should give Christian McCaffrey place to grind the clock on the ground.
New York's offense was dealt a major blow when rookie running back Cam Tax Chamber he had to be carted off the field after suffering an ankle injury that required surgery. Dart could look good against a limping 49ers defense, but he remains inconsistent in his rookie campaign and completes just 58.3% of his passes. The defense is allowing 382.4 yards per game and is prone to breakdowns, as was demonstrated when it gave up 33 fourth-quarter points to Denver two weeks ago.
