Modded Skyrim gets a hair closer to a merging with reality, thanks to dynamic NPC trim changes which won’t ruin canonical baldies

The year is 3025. A patch has been added to real life that allows you to see every item you own with such precision that your eyes practically turn into microscopes. That's cool, your friend says, we're just a little behind on the level of detail right now. Skyrim modders have equipped the best lizard scream simulator of 2011.

If you're wondering what inspired me to pick up a crystal ball, it's the introduction of another Skyrim mod that takes RPG one step closer to creating as many dynamically moving parts as our own reality. This allows people all over Tamriel to look at the calendar and decide they need a fresh haircut, without any input from your character, who then drops off to catch up on all the new haircuts like a distant aunt at a family gathering.

Modder JaySerpa has become the standard download for this kind of work, help make the game world less staticand their latest mod is called Dynamic NPC hairstyles. “I like strong stories, I like NPCs having a will of their own, and I like the world evolving as you play,” they wrote. “These three concepts will go hand in hand within this mod.”

So, they created a system that automatically changes the hairstyles of non-Argonian NPCs to something appropriate whenever the seasons change in the game. So, if you encounter Mikael, the bard of Whiterun, during Evening Star, he may have slightly thicker locks of hair, reflecting the need to stay warm in the cold. Or if you run into him during “Sun's Height”, he might be using a shorter song to maximize the summer vibe. These are small changes, but done so subtly, they can help spice up a long playthrough.

Wait, you're right to say, wouldn't this result in canonically bald or balding characters suddenly starting to go back to normal, something usually only available to vain 21st century businessmen? Don't be afraid. Jaiserpa has added the ability to automatically exempt bald people from paying taxes, so you don't risk rationalizing the situation by pretending there's now a hair transplant clinic hidden in the sewers of Riften. The modder also deliberately excluded hairstyles such as mohawks from the list of changes to prevent the changes from being too drastic.

If you want, you can also exempt such followers and Jarls from the tax, which can help ensure compatibility with other mods. Meanwhile, some existing voice lines have been remixed to allow you to approach friendly characters and manually change their hairstyle if you think their new hairstyle doesn't suit them.

For the mod to work, you need to take Distributor of items for spell perks, Keyword distributor, Hair Color SyncAnd Vanilla hair remake with additional wig file.
