The Blue Jays will feel aggrieved after a controversial umpire's decision prevented them from tying the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Toronto's Alejandro Kirk was hit by reliever Rocky Sasaki and was replaced by fast runner Myles Straw before Addison Barger's line drive wedged under the wall in left-center field.
But instead of allowing Straw and Barger to score, the play was called the basic rule is twofold,, external putting runners in second and third.
A ground rule double is usually signaled when a fair hit ball is deemed impossible to field in a particular stadium layout, such as when it gets stuck under a tarp and runners are allowed to advance two bases.
The home team challenged the decision, saying the fielder could have easily collected the ball, but the on-field decision was confirmed by video review.
And with the tying run in scoring position, Andres Jimenez led into a double play to end the game.
Previously, the Dodgers drew first blood on Halloween night when Tommy Edman hit a double, Shohei Ohtani was walked intentionally and Smith's double to left sent Edman home.
Freddie Freeman walked to load the bases, and Betts' two-run single gave the visitors the decisive lead that led to the deciding inning.
Game 7 is Saturday night, again at Rogers Center.
