The Minnesota Vikings have signed Calgary Stampeders linebacker Jacob Roberts to an NFL futures contract, sources say.
The Charlotte, North Carolina native led the team with 93 defensive tackles in 2025 while adding nine special teams tackles, four sacks and one forced fumble in his first year as a CFL starter. He joined the Stamps midway through the 2024 season and played in six games, recording four tackles on defense and 10 tackles on special teams.
The 24-year-old cornerback has no NFL experience after going undrafted in 2024 and signing a direct contract with Calgary. He finished his NCAA career at Wake Forest University with 83 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, six sacks and two forced fumbles in 12 games.
Roberts transferred from North Carolina A&T State University, where he was a three-time second-team all-conference selection—once in the MEAC and twice in the Big South. In 32 games with the Aggies, he totaled 218 tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups, 9.5 sacks, five interceptions, six blocks and two defensive touchdowns.
Minnesota was the only NFL team for which Roberts trained in the offseason. The six-foot-one, 233-pound defensive end was set to become a free agent on Tuesday, Feb. 10, meaning the Stampeders will not retain CFL rights in 2026. If he is released after this date, he will be free to sign with any team on either side of the border.
The Vikings narrowly missed the NFL playoffs, finishing third in the NFC North with a 9–8 record.
