Winter Mining craft the game drop arrived – and with it first new weapon added to the game for more than 15 years. The Spear is here and it could very well change your game. Mining craftespecially if you love chaos.
The Mounts of Mayhem expansion also adds several new features and updates related to animal riding. Mining craft. This focus made the spear a perfect fit for this update, and the development team at Mojang Studios already knew it was time for a new weapon.
“Initially, we knew we wanted a new weapon that would increase range, and we wanted it to be for mounted combat,” Mojang senior product manager Anna Lundgren told Polygon during a video call. “We tried a few different ideas, but the spear performed well in our prototype testing and was a good fit for the specific use case.”
If you're wondering whether mounted combat means you can fight your friends on horseback, the answer is yes. In fact, there's even an attack that's perfect for this.
“[Jousting on horses is] it's one of the most colorful uses of the spear, and it's a lot of fun,” says Lundgren. “The spear has two attacks: you have a striking attack where you simply stab your enemy. But you also have a dash attack where you lower your spear and take more damage. [with] the more speed and speed you have. So [it’s] ideal for jousting on horseback.”
However, the chaotic fun doesn't have to end there. If you've gotten far enough into the game to have been to “The End,” Lundgren and the rest of the Mojang team have an even more ridiculous idea. “If you're too late to the game, [spears are] perfect for strapping on the elytra and going outside and causing some mayhem,” she teases.
In other words: celestial jousting is now a reality, and it should immediately become an Olympic sport.
Another major addition in this new update is Nautilus. Based on the shells we've all collected in-game over the years, this underwater creature can be tamed and ridden for underwater adventures. Not only will it move you through the water faster than swimming, but it will also retain your air supply so you don't have to come to the surface for fresh air.
The rest of the add-ons are basically things that want to kill you, like the method Mining craft. Naturally, a zombie Nautilus appears in the water, often with a drowned man on his back. However, if you manage to take care of the Drowned Man, you can tame a Zombie Nautilus – or a regular one for that matter – with the help of a Pufferfish.
Like the spear, the Nautilus has long been approaching Mining craft team.
“We have been thinking about this problem from time to time for quite some time, and again, as in the case of the spear and [adding] more means of transportation, and I thought it was time to introduce something for the underwater environment,” explains Lundgren. “For Nautilus in particular, we had a few different ideas for underwater mounts that we wanted to try out, but the concept art for Nautilus looked amazing, and we have a connection to the Nautilus skin that was already in the game.”
She also notes that there are actually two different types of Zombie Nautilus: the regular Zombie Nautilus and the Coral Zombie Nautilus. “[The variants] add some flair to what you find underwater.”
Other additions include scorched, desert-exclusive skeletons that can survive in the sun, meaning they're impossible to escape once you find yourself in this biome. You'll sometimes see them on camel skins, another new mob. Camel Husks are passively zombified camels with a superior design where their ribs stick out. The same goes for zombie horses, which have a similar design with bursting ribs and can sometimes be found at night with a zombie carrying a spear on its back.
The last two things on the drop list are minor gameplay updates, including some long overdue changes to horse riding. You can now cross bodies of water on horseback. Additionally, Netherite Horse Armor is now available at the workbench, so you can give your horse the maximum protection it deserves.
Overall, the last game of the year is a pretty good one. The spear alone – and the potential for chaos it brings – would seem like a significant improvement. Add Nautilus and something else that's trying to kill you, and Mining craftdefinitely gets a little spicier.
The Mounts of Mayhem update is now available for Java and Bedrock versions. Mining craft.
