Today, when you use Google, an AI-generated summary of results related to your search queries appears at the top of the web page. This has led to what people call the “web traffic apocalypse,” throwing years of work by publications to build PageRank out the window.
What's worse is that many of these reviews are taken at face value, with modest people not continuing their research beyond what was presented to them in the first place; however, because it is AI, many of these aggregated results have been identified as clearly containing misinformation, and a disturbing new trend has resulted in some serious allegations being falsely attributed to the wrong people.
Marine fiddler Ashley MacIsaac recently lost a gig after Google's AI review incorrectly identified him as a sex offenderand now it seems legendary There is no more faith And Mister Bungle vocalist Mike Patton faces a similar situation.
As first reported Metal sucksA Reddit user on the r/FaithNoMore subreddit posted a screenshot of his Google search result for “Mike Patton Charges,” which reads: “The main serious charges against musician Mike Patton involve criminal charges in 2000 for transporting a minor across state lines for sexual activity, which resulted in a lesser-modified guilty plea and probation, while other discussions mention past conflicts such as the firing of a Faith No More member, but they are different from sexual misconduct. accusations.”
It doesn't take much deductive reasoning to conclude that there are definitely other people named Mike Patton, but it's pretty scary that the AI review says he was a musician. (There are probably other musicians named Mike Patton, but of course none are as famous as this one.)
At the time of publication, when I search the same keywords as the Redditor, I get a scant review highlighting one line from the book of criminal Mike Patton. Consideration of the GovInfo case it reads: “Specifically, Patton admitted that he traveled from Ohio to Kentucky with a 13-year-old boy and engaged in sexual activity in violation of Ohio and Kentucky sexual assault laws (Count 1).”
Other Reddit users are getting different search results, but some claim that their reviews of Google AI clearly indicate that these allegations are being attributed to a different Mike Patton.
