For all the incredible Stephen King adaptations, there have been some abominations. One such misfire that really made it seem like he forgot his father's name was Nikolai Arcel's 2017 big screen film. Dark Tower. The film, starring Idris Elba as the gunslinger, Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as Randall Flagg, was poorly received by both critics and audiences, ruining any chance of the gunslinger getting promoted further.
Luckily, the man who took on King stories like Doctor SleepLife of Chuck and soon the TV adaptation of Carrie are heading to the tower thanks to another collaboration with Amazon Prime Video. Talking to Empire As for developing the gunslinger's journey through the desert for the Man in Black, Flanagan assured that it was “touching. We have written a lot of scripts. This is the main priority.”
There are many factors to consider when adapting a story that consists of eight main books and one or two short stories. Flanagan's main concern, however, is that he manages to bring the tower to life in a way that the film failed to do. “We cannot allow this to be the last word. We really can't.”
Even though the show's development may be in full swing, there are no confirmed cast members yet. However, don't be surprised if we end up seeing some familiar Flanagan favorites pop up when they do. Rahul Kohli as a marksman, anyone?
