miHoYo releases first tease for new Unreal Engine 5 fantasy MMO, and yes, it uses AI

miHoYo, developer Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Railwayand other gacha games, has released a teaser for its upcoming Unreal Engine 5 project. It's a fantasy MMO that uses, you guessed it, artificial intelligence.

Noticed by users on ResetEramiHoYo's recruitment department posted a video and more information about the project on Xiaohongshu (a Chinese social media platform). The post lists a number of the game's key features, including MMO, PvP, open world, “AI-driven ecosystem,” all-terrain combat AI, and “intelligent NPCs.”

It's worth noting that these are translated, so the exact wording should be taken with a grain of salt. However, it does give some insight into one of miHoYo's upcoming big projects. First of all, it's immediately clear from the post that the aesthetic of this mysterious new project doesn't match miHoYo's typical anime style. Instead, you see obvious traces of Unreal Engine 5.

What may raise eyebrows is the mention of artificial intelligence. which miHoYo used in the past in Zenless Zone Zero to “smooth out” the development process.. The company has previously drawn a line in the sand when it comes to artificial intelligence and voice work. stated that its contracts provide for voice protection using artificial intelligence when a contract dispute led to changes in SAGAFTRA's membership.

This post seems to indicate a continuation of miHoYo's approach to AI in game development, although obviously the full extent of its use remains unclear. We don't know the name of the game, when it'll be released, what the gameplay will actually look like… It's a big question mark about the company's lineup at the moment.

It's no secret that miHoYo is working on other games. including a monster collection game called Honkai: Nexus Anima.. For now, we'll just have to sit tight and wait for more information about this new project.
