A day after the Miami Dolphins placed cornerback JuJu Brents on injured reserve. poached another defensive back from the Los Angeles Rams practice squad. The team once again made a defensive move.
The team has placed cornerback Jordan Colbert on the injured reserve list, according to the Miami Dolphins. The 25-year-old guard from Rhode Island signed with Miami in 2024 as an undrafted free agent.
Colbert moved to linebacker earlier this year, a move that appears to have enthused linebackers coach and running game coordinator Joe Barry. Here's what he said on October 16 during his weekly press conference..

“(Colbert) has great athleticism. He's always been on the defensive side of the ball. And we just felt that with his skills and physicality … if he had any future in the National Football League, it would be at linebacker.”
Barry continued: “He's one of those guys too, Barry (Jackson), that you hope we're around and he's around to have a chance to get him in the offseason. Because it's hard to move a player during the season, I'm talking about a radical position change from defensive end to inside linebacker… it's hard to do in a season. I think he'll make it… if he does make it as an NFL linebacker… he'll make it” in the offseason it's an OTA draft… we made the decision to put him there, push him practice reps every day… every moment of simulating the defense that our offense faces every day, he plays linebacker, so he gets meaningful reps.”
Colbert has only made five tackles in his career, but after listening back to Joe Barry's comments, I can't help but be intrigued by what he can become IF he is given another chance in Miami AND IF this coaching staff stays in place.
NOTE. Placing Colbert on injured reserve now leaves an open roster spot if/when the Dolphins plan to bring back Austin Jackson or another player from injured reserve. ///
