Mexican president celebrates Fátima Bosch’s Miss Universe 2025 win

MEXICO CITY — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum celebrated Friday victory Fatima Bosch Fernandez of Mexico as Miss Universe 2025, applauding her as an example for women.

Bosch's victory the night before in Thailand provided vindication after the 25-year-old was berated by Thailand's national director at the start of the competition. Bosch left in response, and the other members followed him in solidarity.

“I like that she spoke up when she felt it was unfair, and that’s an example,” Mexico’s first female president said during her daily briefing. “What they said about being more beautiful when you are silent is left behind. Women are more beautiful when we speak up and participate.”

When Bosh was announced as the winner, cheers and cheers erupted from the audience as enthusiastic supporters waved Mexican flags.

Her home state of Tabasco, where thousands watched the competition from a local baseball stadium in southeastern Mexico, celebrated throughout the night.

During a live-streamed awards ceremony for more than 100 participants on November 4, Thailand's national director Nawat Itzaragrisil criticized Bosch for allegedly not following his guidelines for participating in local promotional events. He called security when she spoke to defend herself.

Bosch left the room and was joined by several others in a show of solidarity.

The president of the Miss Universe Organization, Mexican businessman Raul Rocha Cantu, issued a statement condemning Navat's behavior as “public aggression” and “serious abuse.”

Nawat later apologized for his actions, appearing both tearful and defiant.
