Mexican marine biologist attacked by shark in Costa Rica

San Jose -the Mexican marine biologist was seriously injured after the shark attacked him, working for the coast of the Pacific Ocean Costa -Riki and moved to the hospital in the capital of the country on Monday, the authorities said.

The Fire Service of Kosta Riki said that he saved 48-year-old Maurisio Hoyos from attack on Saturday and transferred him to a 36-hour journey from the island of Kosos, about 550 kilometers from the coast. Despite the serious injuries of the head, face and hands, Hoyos arrived in the hospital in a stable state.

“He marked the types of monitoring, and when he marked one of the types of shark of the island, the shark turned,” said Louis Fernandez, a doctor from the fire department. “It was about 4 meters in length with a huge force of bite – he turned and bit him on the head.”

Hoyos led the scientific expedition as part of the One Ocean Worldwide coalition, joint initiative, which includes attached fins of organizations, for the Oceans Foundation, the Rob Stewart Sharkvoter Foundation.

“Similar incidents are extremely rare,” said Alex Antoniu, Executive Director of Fins Atted, on social networks. “Dr. Hoyos is an extraordinary scientist who devoted his career to the preservation of sharks, and we are deeply grateful for the support of the Coscosa Island community at this very difficult time.”

The island of Kokos is the National Park of Costa -Rikan and was declared the UNESCO World Heritage Place in 1997. It is known for its wide variety of species, especially sharks.
