BitBeamCannon started a lively Kickstarter campaign for his next retro adventure called Metal Mack, a project targeting Mega Drive and Genesis, Neo Geo and Steam. Support came in quickly, and the team reached its initial funding goal in less than a day, prompting the developers to set ambitious new goals. The game takes inspiration from familiar old-school characters, although this new hero eschews the usual blue clothing and roams the levels, gently poking fun at the game's established worlds.
The team is shaping Metal Mack to be a flexible game with branching mechanics that go beyond the usual formula associated with the source of the parody. Players earn currency by destroying mechanical opponents and their intelligent robot bosses. This in turn fuels an upgrade system that opens paths to various special abilities. BitBeamCannon's Corey said the idea came from his love of classic action games. He felt that many modern monuments simply tried to reflect the original design without adding personality. This prompted him to create humorous animated skits featuring a playful parody character. The reaction to these parodies prompted him to develop the concept into a full game.
Metal Mack will take you through traditional run-and-gun levels and also features quick-paced sections. There will be light mini-games and a parade of comedy videos. All this is designed to reflect the energetic spirit of adventure of the era of old cartridges. Even the cheat code system returns, offering hidden rewards or fun additions for players who like to explore the world.
