And this makes sense, because when you reduce the choice of hunters to simple mathematics, using the so -called model for the choice of prey (more about this below), these long -lost species offered a large profit for hunting efforts. In other words, giant laziness died out because they were tasty and made of meat.
Yes, this is the fault of mankind – again
When the last ice age came to an end, large animals, which once dominated in the world plaintocene landscapes, began to disappear. Mammoth, saber -toothed tigers and giant battleships completely died out. Other species died out at the local level; Nosorons are no longer trampled around Southern Europe, and the horses disappeared from America until the European colonists brought new views of thousands of years later.
Scientists argued how much of this was the fault of mankind for a rather long time.
Most of the fault goes to the changing climate of the world; The habitat moved when the world mostly became warmer and wetter. But, at least in some places, people may have accelerated the process, either hunting for the last of the pleistocene megafauna to disappear, or just shaking the rest of the ecosystem, so it was too ready to destroy, removing the largest views with it.
At first glance, it seems that hunters for the late ice age of South America are not safely guilty. Firstly, Megafauna did not begin to die up to a thousand years after people first stepped into the region. Archaeologists also did not find many places that contain both traces of human activity and the bones of extinct horses, giant armadillos or other megafaunas. And in these few areas of the bone of megafaun, they made up only a small percentage of the contents of the ancient piles of scrap. There is not enough evidence of us in the crime scene, in other words – or so it seems.
On the other hand, megafauna of the ice age began to die in South America about 13,000 years ago, at about the same time when the type of shell called a fish tail appeared. This may not be a coincidence, one study claimed. And at the end of last year, another study showed that further to the north, in the fact that now there are in the United States, diets on Clovis’s people contained giant quantities … well, mammoth.
