“It's a big moment for Jace and it's a big moment for me, so I had to come home,” Carla told Courtney.

Growing up in Toronto and spending summers in Newfoundland, the Blue Jays became “home” for Courtney.

“I think I want to go to Toronto for the energy, right? It's really interesting; things like this don't happen very often,” she said.

Across the pond, Courtney changed her sleep schedule so she wouldn't miss Jace's playoff moment.

To keep herself busy watching nervous games in the middle of the night, she started knitting to relieve stress.

“No matter how far they go, I will have something to remember this season,” Courtney said.

She began wearing the retro sweater during Game 4 of the ALDS against the New York Yankees, documenting her progress in the game. social media.

Each section of the work carries memories of different moments in the playoffs. One moment related to the mustard stain from the game.

“We lost those two games, and that represents a difficult moment,” she said, pointing to the Blue Jays logo she created.

For Courtney, knitting keeps her in the present and calms her emotions during stressful situations.

“I’m only allowed to knit during games, I didn’t break that rule,” she explained. “I was knitting on the fly on the way, but it was game day, so it's okay. I'm kind of keeping an eye on the team's progress. So hopefully the longer they go, the longer I'll be.”

Dedicated to her craft, she continued the project while at the Rogers Center for Games 6 and 7 of the ALCS.

She remembers the turning point when George Springer hit the home run that gave the Blue Jays the lead in Game 7.

“I was holding the sweater in my hands and I thought, ‘Now I’m going to put mascara on it,’” she recalled. “I was crying, it was so emotional, everyone was applauding and it was really incredible.”

Courtney plans to stay in Toronto as long as it takes to see the Blue Jays win the World Series.

“I’m not going anywhere, of course not,” she said. “I’ll just change my ticket, I don’t care.”
