- Equip and customize your gear
- Think over the best moves in tactical combat.
- Cool characters and stellar voice acting too
I hate how shallow I can be sometimes when it comes to visuals, but honestly the first thing I noticed about Mecharashi was that the main character looked like Dante from Devil May Cry, so I wanted to give it a try (I'm sorry).
However, a few hours into this tactical battle and I'm completely engrossed – thank goodness I judge a book by its notorious cover.
Mecharashi is basically just piloting your badass mech to destroy other people's badass mechs, and I really like it. The grid-based battlefield, the clunky mech movements, the overly specific equipment details – I'm all for it, mainly because it reminds me of the good old days of Front Mission (back when Square Enix was still Square).
It also reminds me of the mecha battles of Xenogears (though that's a completely different genre), but I guess that's the power of nostalgia, isn't it? It forces you to develop an affinity for something, even if it defies logic – all I know is that Mecharashi gives me feelings and I'm very willing to go all in.

Of course, there's an entertaining narrative here too – you find yourself in the middle of a war between different factions, so you'll need to upgrade your equipment and develop the most effective strategies. turn-based combat moves to keep your gear safe and sound. The cutscenes are animated in 3D, with fully voiced lines (and great voice acting, we might add) that add to the immersion.
The robots themselves aren't the only superbly designed assets, because as mentioned, the characters themselves look really, really cool. Of course, you can customize your 'Mech aesthetically, but it's the combat stats that really stuck with me.
You can, for example, use a sniper to target a specific part of an enemy mech, whether that means disabling the right arm so they can't shoot you, or damaging a leg to make it difficult for them to move.

And when you eventually reduce your enemies to smithereens, there's nothing more satisfying. Add to that a Dante-like MC and… let's just say I know what I'll be playing all weekend.
Mecharashi is available to download for free on iOS and Android, and if you're interested, you can invest in in-app purchases!
