In Season 4 of The Mayor of Kingstown, the stakes are high. Jeremy Renner was revealed on CBS Mornings on Wednesday.
“It's a pretty intense show… the whole storyline involves all the players, the main characters of the show. So there aren't a lot of subplots to follow, so the show keeps things pretty tense for everyone,” Renner said.
Renner plays Mike McLuskey, whose brother is an incarcerated cop. Joining the cast this season is Edie Falco, who will play Nina Hobbs, the new matron of Anchor Bay Prison.
“Having hit a brick wall like Nina Hobbs, the new town supervisor, creates real, real problems for Mike throughout the season,” Renner said.
After recovering from his New Year's Day accident in 2023, Renner, who broke 38 bones and underwent multiple surgeries, said the “Mayor of Kingstown” crew was there to help him when he returned to set.
“Everyone is taking really good care of me,” he said.
Renner and Falco on working together
Falco, an Emmy Award winner and former star of “The Sopranos,” said she enjoys playing strong female characters like Hobbs.
“My agents have called me more than once and said, 'Well, this role was written for a man.' … Once I learned to not take it personally, I began to really enjoy the place of power that many of these women occupy, and I do it with a lot of confidence,” Falco said.
Renner and Falco are working together for the first time.
“When you work with an actor, if you look into their eyes, part of them always says, ‘Hi. Look at us. We're in this show.” … And none of this happened. He’s the guy,” Falco said of Renner. “And that makes the playground very real to me.”
Renner said Falco is “amazing” as his on-screen counterpart.
“First of all, he’s a great character. She's a really strong female character and that's amazing. Truly such a great opponent and there is no one better to fill this role.”
“The Mayor of Kingstown” returns Sunday, October 26th on Paramount+.
