Harlem rap Max B was released from prison on Sunday after serving 16 years for his role in a botched armed robbery that left a man dead.
A rapper named Charlie Wingate, who released a series of mixtapes and popularized the term “wavy” before his 2007 arrest on manslaughter and armed robbery charges, said earlier this year in a phone interview from prison that he would be released on Nov. 9, 2025.
“I feel righteous, man,” Max said in an interview on Joe Budden’s podcast earlier this year. “I'm fine. It's almost over… The wavy baby will be home very soon.”
In 2009, Max B. was sentenced to 75 years in prison for being an accomplice in a New Jersey robbery that ended in murder. (The rapper was not on staff at the time.) The conviction was later overturned in 2016 after a new legal team argued that Max's original lawyer had a conflict of interest in the case. His sentence was subsequently reduced to 20 years.
French Montana, with whom Max B collaborated on their 2009 mixtape. Coke wavewas among those who greeted the rapper after his release from prison on Sunday. “I CAN’T IMAGINE THIS! Even though Max B. is behind bars, he is still managed to release new music from prison, often recording his poetry over the phone. After his 2011 album Vigilante SeasonMax B and Montana reunited in 2019 for “Wait“, his first new song in eight years. Meanwhile, Max B also appeared on the track “Siiiiiiiiiilver Surffffeeeeer Intermission”, which appeared on Kanye West's 2016 album. Life of Pablo.
