Campaneris shared a statement about Sanchez on her Instagram Story on Sunday after the former New York Jets star was released from the hospital and charged with assault.

“I am aware of serious criminal charges currently facing my son’s father, Mark Sanchez,” she wrote.

“My first priority has always been and remains our eight-year-old son Daniel. I have chosen to remain silent publicly to protect Daniel.

“Now that everything is out in the open, my focus hasn't changed. I was always concerned about his safety and what he was exposed to. Unfortunately, none of this surprises me.”

Campaneris added that she only learned about the incident from the news and did not have more detailed information on the matter.

“Like everyone else, I learned of this terrible event from a news alert on my phone while sitting next to Daniel. I still only know what is publicly available,” she wrote.

“My thoughts and sympathies are with the victim and everyone affected by this devastating event.

“I understand that we live in a very public world, but I hope that when my son grows up, he can be seen and understood regardless of this story.

“At the end of the day, I'm just a mom to a very sweet boy trying my best to protect his peace.”

Sanchez has been married to actress Perri Mattfeld for more than two years, and the couple announced in February that they were expecting twins.

Sanchez was arraigned Sunday on assault charges and processed by the Marion County Sheriff's Office following his release from the hospital.

He was stabbed in the chest during an alleged altercation with 69-year-old grease truck driver Perry Tole just after midnight on October 4. According to court documents, Tole was parked in the hotel's loading dock when Sanchez allegedly argued with him about a parking spot.

Fox Sports Analyst he is charged with Level 5 Felony Resulting in Great Bodily Injury along with three misdemeanor charges of battery resulting in bodily injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.

If convicted, Sanchez could receive up to six years in prison. His next court date is November 5th.

Thole also filed a lawsuit against Sanchez and his employer Fox Sports for civil damages.

In the lawsuit, Tole claims that the attack left him “severely permanently disfigured” and left him with serious injuries to his head, jaw and neck.
