Spaceport Nova Scotia is developing the necessary infrastructure for future orbital flights.
Sea launch services just received financial support for the commercial space race in Atlantic Canada.
The Halifax-headquartered aerospace company has received a $10 million line of credit from Export Development Canada (EDC) to continue construction of a spaceport in Nova Scotia. EDC, a federal Crown corporation, provides financial support to Canadian export-oriented businesses.
Maritime Launch became the first space-related company to list on the NEO exchange in 2022.
The loan agreement provides financing for the next phase of construction of Spaceport Nova Scotia, including the launch pad and infrastructure development needed to support future orbital missions. Spaceport Nova Scotia is being built near Canso, North Carolina, about 300 km east of Halifax, to provide satellite launch services to Canadian and international customers.
“EDC’s support helps us advance construction of Spaceport Nova Scotia as we prepare for orbital launches,” Maritime Launch President and CEO Stephen Mathieu said in a statement. “Together, we are demonstrating that Canada can achieve sovereign launch capability, an important milestone in building a competitive and sustainable space ecosystem in Canada.”
In August, Maritime Launch Services reached an agreement with the Longueuil, Quebec-based rocket company. Reaction dynamics conduct its own launch attempt from Spaceport Nova Scotia by the third quarter of 2028. As part of the deal, Reaction Dynamics invested approximately $1 million in equity in Maritime Launch. Maritime Launch said the deal paves the way for the first-ever orbital launch of a Canadian-designed and built rocket from Canadian soil.
