Mariners’ Logan Gilbert to start Game 6 of ALCS vs. Blue Jays

Logan Gilbert has a strong track record of success, but not against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Nevertheless, Seattle Mariners will be the star right-hander in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series against the Blue Jays on Sunday (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, Sportsnet and Sportsnet+).

With the victory, the Mariners will advance to the World Series for the first time in franchise history.

Gilbert started Game 2 of the series on two days' rest after pitching two-plus innings in the Mariners' marathon 15-inning ALDS clincher over the Detroit Tigers.

In his first postseason game against Toronto, the former star player allowed six baserunners and two earned runs over three innings in what ultimately ended in a 10–3 Mariners victory, putting them up 2–0 in the series.

But the Blue Jays fought back, winning two of three on the road in Seattle and forcing a do-or-die Game 6 north of the border.

In Gilbert's only regular season start against the Blue Jays this year, he allowed nine baserunners and two earned runs in just 4.2 innings and has a 5.24 ERA in six career appearances against Toronto.

However, the 28-year-old is performing well overall.

Gilbert has recorded a 3.44 ERA, 173 strikeouts and only 31 walks in 131 innings this season, while also striking out 11, walking two and allowing just three runs in 11 innings in October.
