Mariah Carey Is MusiCares Person of the Year for 2026 │ Exclaim!

Mariah Carey was named the 2026 MusiCares Person of the Year in honor of the legendary artist for her outstanding artistic achievements and dedication to charitable causes. At 56, she could become the youngest woman to win the award since Gloria Estefan, who was 36, in 1994, and the youngest winner since Sting in 2004.

Commenting on the 35th annual honoree, Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares, shared in a statement, “We are honored to recognize Mariah Carey as this year's MusiCares Person of the Year, a true creative force and a once-in-a-generation talent.”

The MusiCares Person of the Year Award recognizes musicians not only for their creative achievements in the industry, but also for their tremendous commitment to charitable work. Teresa Walters, executive director of MusiCares, stated, “Mariah Carey's influence extends far beyond her remarkable artistry…she has consistently used her platform to provide tangible support to communities, whether through disaster relief, youth empowerment, or programs that help those who face barriers to opportunity.”

Just two days before the 68th Grammy Awards, the MusiCares Person of the Year Gala honoring Carey will take place on January 30 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The announcement follows the release of the artist's 16th studio album, titled Here for it allreleased last month.
