Maple Ridge Mother Wins Home Renovation Contest – The Canadian Business Journal

LANGLEY, British Columbia, November 13, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Centra Windows and installation advantages and their charitable foundation care center We are proud to announce the winners of the 2025 Home Renovation Challenge: Moira Kelly and her son James of Maple Ridge. From more than 230 heartfelt nominations, the Kelly family's story of perseverance, strength and love deeply touched Centra's employee owners.

This marks the third year Moira has been nominated for the competition – proof that determination and community support truly make dreams come true. With the support of four caring friends, Moira's story finally reached the finish line and she was gifted brand new high-performance Centra windows designed to bring security, warmth and peace of mind to her home.

Moira Kelly is a single mother and devoted caregiver to her 40-year-old son, James, who lives with Angelman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes developmental disabilities and serious health problems. Nonverbal and semi-mobile, James requires constant care as he copes with seizures, difficulty sleeping and chronic health problems.

Now in her 60s and facing her own health challenges, Moira continues to put every effort into creating a loving and safe environment for her son. Despite limited resources and little outside support, she finds joy in the simple pleasures of life with James, from car rides to his favorite outings at Dairy Queen.

The Kelly family's aging home has long been a source of stress and safety issues. Original windows that are nearly four decades old suffer from broken seals, leaks and mold, leading to condensation and even ice formation during the colder months. The damaged frames also fail to block out allergens and wildfire smoke, factors that aggravate James' severe eye infections and threaten his vision.

What's even more alarming is that every window lock in the house has broken over time. “For years we had to use wooden sticks to secure the windows and feel safe,” Moira shared. Custom Centra installation, energy saving windows will not only improve comfort and indoor air quality, but also restore much-needed peace of mind.

“This competition is one of the most meaningful things we do as a company,” says Emily Parson, senior vice president of Centra Install Pros. “Every year our employee owners come together to make a difference in the lives of families facing challenges and challenges. Moira and James' story reminds us why we do what we do – it's about people, community and using your success and resources to make a real difference for those who need it.”

Now in its seventh year, the Centra Cares home renovation competition continues to exemplify Centra's core mission of supporting families and strengthening communities. Previous winners have stayed in touch to share how their homes have changed their lives, and Moira and James now join this special community of families at the Centre.

Centra plans to renovate Kelly's home early next year.
