Maple expands virtual mental health care through Beyond ADHD acquisition

Virtual care provider buys New Brunswick platform to improve ADHD offerings.

Toronto-based virtual services provider Maple is expanding its mental health solutions with the acquisition of Beyond ADHD, a Grafton, Nebraska-based startup specializing in digital ADHD treatment tools.

Maple says all Beyond ADHD services will “continue without interruption” as the company integrates.

Beyond ADHD, now operating as a subsidiary of Maple, provides its new parent company with tools for assessment, diagnosis and follow-up visits with Canadian physicians. Brett Belchetz, CEO and co-founder of Maple, said in a statement that the deal improves access to timely clinical mental health care across Canada while ensuring continuity of service for patients and providers.

“This acquisition reflects what drives us at Maple: closing critical gaps in care and combining proven clinical programs with technology to remove barriers and help people get care faster,” Belchetz said. “This is a natural next step in making mental health support more accessible to Canadians.”

The two companies provide care to more than 20,000 patients with ADHD, Maple said, saying there is opportunity to expand their treatments nationwide. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Beyond ADHD CEO Hanif Chatur founded the company to solve what he saw as the fragmented, inaccessible and difficult-to-navigate ADHD care industry. In addition to assessing, diagnosing and aftercare for ADHD, the platform also supports patients with related mental health needs such as depression and anxiety.

“Beyond ADHD was created by people with ADHD, for people with ADHD,” Chatur said in a statement. “With Maple’s scale, technology and clinical leadership, we can accelerate our impact and continue to deliver safe and consistent results for patients.”

Founded in 2015 and led by a former emergency room physician from Belcetz, Maple developed its digital health platform to address issues such as access to family doctors, with the goal of providing timely and convenient access to healthcare providers. In 2021 Maple purchased Velloa Calgary-based company that provides virtual assistance through employer programs.

The Wello acquisition expanded the workforce in Maple's business, but the company has found success through provincial partnerships. In 2023 Nova Scotia in partnership with Maple expand YourHealthNS, an app that provides access to virtual health services, resources and information.

Maple said all Beyond ADHD services will “continue without interruption” as the company integrates, with all of its employees and contractors remaining with the organization. The company added that Beyond ADHD will continue to build on the strong relationships it has established with health and student insurers, leveraging additional resources for growth and impact.
