Harry Maguire's late header gave Manchester United their first win at Anfield in almost a decade and… Liverpool fourth defeat in a row.
It was a resounding victory for Ruben Amorim's side over their arch-rivals, and the manager called it “the biggest win of my time at Manchester United.”
The back pages of newspapers on Monday reflected the scale of the result, which also gave United their first consecutive Premier League win under the Portuguese.
“Amorim were under a lot of pressure but now it's back-to-back wins and they've beaten Liverpool,” Clinton Morrison told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast. “This is a big win for United and puts them top of the league.
“United's front three had a lot of pace. They wanted to cause problems for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, and they did. It was probably one of the few games where I thought Van Dijk looked nervous in the first half.
“That's because United's game plan worked brilliantly. They defended well and counterattacked well.
“They always go against the big teams – we saw that last season – so now they have to go against the big teams. Brighton next week.
“Whether they can do it remains a big question.”
