Has New York's elected mayor, the “democratic socialist” (communist) Zohran Mamdani, found a cynical way to appease his Islamic base while being nice to his “woke” supporters? Because his latest proposal of crazy leftist policies makes it seem like he's trying to do just that. Town Hall Amy Curtis has the details:
This is such a good point that the author is angry that she didn't connect the dots first. However, she has written several articles about Zoran Mamdani and his troubling anti-gay connections. This includes relationship with a Ugandan politician Rebecca Kadaga, who supported a law that would give life sentences to gays; Imam Siraj Wahhaj, who called gays “a disease of society” and spoke with virulent anti-gay rhetoric; And Mamdani's own father, who waged war against a gay professor from Uganda.
Mamdani has a pro-trans program and vows to allow Americans, including children, to come to New York for “gender-affirming care” at taxpayer expense.
Mamdani: “We're going to commit $65 million to gender-affirming treatments.”
He says he will finance it by raising taxes on New York's wealthiest residents and corporations.

But writer Ben Appel, who is also gay, noted that Mamdani's plan echoes the anti-gay policies of totalitarian theocracies such as Iran.

So, is Zoran Mamdani playing both sides against the middle on this issue? Is he trying to avoid support from people like Rebecca Kadaga and Imam Siraj Wahhaj, as well as the woke left of New York? Or is he deliberately trying to destroy young gays?
I tend to think the latter. That's why, and I'll tell you.
First: Zoran Mamdani is capable of many things, but stupidity is not one of them. Clueless, yes, for nth degree; poorly informed and deeply ideologized, too, yes. But he's not stupid. He seems to have found a way to appease two populations that are very different.
Second: Mamdani is indebted to the Islamic community. Big time. His campaign was largely financed by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). They spent a lot of money to bring this guy into office and you have to wonder why; It seems a bit far-fetched to think that they would have supported a guy who was as pro-gay and pro-trans as Zohran Mamdani – if they hadn't seen the opportunity.
Third: this Iranian model. Yes, indeed. In Iran, you can be executed for being gay, but you can be diagnosed with gender identity disorder and have it changed through surgery. Some may point out that being gay in Iran is a crime while being transgender is seen as a disease, but Iran severely discriminates against transgender peopleeven after the rework. Is this what mayor-elect Mamdani's more radical Islamic supporters hope for in New York?
And again he talks about children changing. People who can't sign a contract join the army, get a tattoo, or buy a bottle of booze.
New York may well become a witchcraft of competing and fundamentally opposed ideologies. Things in the Big Apple are looking more and more like they're about to get very interesting every day.
