President Donald Trump threatened to move the World Cup from the New England region if Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, a Democrat, did not take action to combat crime.

Well, there has not yet been any threat to the New York area where the finals will be held on July 19, 2026, and to the candidate for mayor of New York. Zoran Mamdaniwhom Trump once called a “communist lunatic,” told Martha McCallum on Wednesday that he would welcome Trump and his football-loving son Barron to MetLife Stadium.

Trump attended the Club World Cup final at New Jersey Stadium back in July.

Last month, Mamdani announced he wanted to appoint a gaming czar in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and in a conversation with McCallum, he outlined the czar's role and how it would be a huge win not only for tourists, but for New Yorkers as well.

“The World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world, and it seems like no one has thought or talked about it here in New York City government. Next summer it will take place in the city and billions of people will watch us,” he said. “The World Cup Czar will make sure this is a tournament that New Yorkers remember, not just those who visit us. This is a tournament that will mean an increase not only in tourism, but also in small businesses and exploration of this city.

“For too long we've had opportunities like this that we just passed on. We recently had New York's 400th anniversary – most people have no idea because the city didn't do anything about it.”

Last month, Mamdani revealed dynamic prices for the World Cup, calling Tickets “for $6,000” are “absurd.”

BOSTON MAYOR RESPONSES TO TRUMP'S THREATS TO MOVE WORLD CUP GAMES OUT OF CITY FOR SECURITY CONSIDERATIONS

“We see that FIFA's approach to the World Cup ticketing process is without precedent in their own administration of previous World Cups, and is also an approach that will deprive many New Yorkers of the opportunity to actually be in the stands,” he said at the podium. “Pablo Torre will find out.”

Mamdani recently called for 15% of discounted tickets to be allocated to residents and asked FIFA, football's governing body, to scrap a plan to set ticket prices based on demand.
